French Prime Minister was said to be elated by the two French Nobel prizes this year. “What a way to thumb one’s nose at French bashing," he tweeted. There are, however, not-so-sanguine, pretty sober opinions in France, as reported in this New York Times piece. I have no doubts that France is losing her influence in the world. The two winners reflect not the future, but the past glory of the French people and their contributions to the human race.
The prediction of the country's decline might be off by some years, but they still got the sign right. A.A. Gill of Vanity Fair wrote about the French malaise, "Instead of creating, they have dusting." How true!
While they are still debating what to do, I do have a simple solution for the French people, "W-O-R-K!."
