There are idiots in the startup circle here

I am very proud of my students' work in my entrepreneurship class. One of the groups went to present at a startup event this morning. There were some rough edges in the powerpoint, but the idea and progress were fantastic. I am a firm believer of substance-trumps-appearances and thought that the startup people would be the same. So I did not go over the outlook before the official presentation. But apparently people still judge work based on appearances ONLY. They were not selected to the pitch-off. It would have been alright had I not attended and watched the whole thing. What really pissed me off was that the one got picked will never go anywhere. He only had a prettier deck of slides. It is a shame on the judges' part, but a reminder to me that if pigs need lipsticks, there is no reason why we can't have some makeup on a pretty face.
